  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from avid reader -- Little larger font for this important work! : I really appreciate 12th Media Services for making these inexpensive editions of Carter G. Woodson's important, out-of-print works available to the general public, including History of the Negro Church and the Mis-Education of the Negro. I would just request of them to publish them in a slightly more readable format, perhaps changing the size from 6x9 to perhaps 5x8 and to increase the font by a couple of points. This tiny font makes these books very difficult to read, especially for those middle-aged and older! Increasing the font a bit would add a few more pages, but make these important works much more readable. All that said, the works of Carter G. Woodson are absolutely essential for understanding American history, race relations in America, African-American history, and the position of minorities in America. • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Stacy -- Font Size Too Small and Need Pictures : The print size is too small, it's about 8pt print. This book really needs several pictures of the different churches; it would really make it a better read. ( Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2021 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Rev. Judith A. Meier -- A Thorough and Rich Accounting of the Early Black Church : This book is a rich and thorough accounting of the early black church, beginning even before the Revolutionary War days. There is so much in this book that probably has been unknown to the average reader and perhaps even to the average church historian. ( Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2013 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Josh -- Drab but Incredibly Important : This book was originally published in 1912 and is historical, so the writing style is pretty drab. This book, however, chronicles a very important history. The origins of separate black and white churches is something that Christians decry as a failure to live up to God’s standards for humanity. If one believes this separation should be remedied, it’s important to understand how it originated. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2018 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Bezai G. -- A must read : Forgotten in history are the many black Christians and churches that paved the way for those of us who live today. It's a tragedy that this book isn't a required reading in every seminary and Christian institution. ( Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2021 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Rev. Delwyn X. Campbell -- Good as a personal statement, lacking citations as a historical work. : Dr. Woodson had many interesting references to events, but he failed to document the references. As a result, I created my own set of footnotes which, I hope, I hope would accurately reflect the intentions of the Author. ( Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Welton Bonner -- Imperative Read on Church history : and encouraging resource regarding the foundation of the black church. She was persecuted, but not extinguished. In fact, she grew stronger. Yet, white supremacy has tried to silence her story. ( Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2021 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Cynthia Milotte -- Initial data in the first half the book "History of the Negro Church" is excellent : First half of the book "Hisotory of the Negro Church" is great - second half a;; about individual leaders of little value ( Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2019 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Glenroy Robertson -- Five Stars : Great history ( Reviewed in Canada on February 14, 2015 )
