There’s an emphasis on the natural rather than the contrived; the organic rather than the chemical which I prefer in my gardening/floral books. Grace Alexander takes the pressure off of “keeping up” and places it on doing what you can and enjoying the moments that are so fleeting in the seasons of the garden. On a broader scale, this can apply to life itself. I highly recommend this book, it’s going on my favorites shelf. I hope you pick up a copy and enjoy it as well. It is one of those books that asks to be read over and over again, which is why I needed to have my own copy. For me this is much than a normal garden book it is about a way of life , slowing down and to stop and take the time to think about what and why you are planting and to become more in tune with nature as well as the environment around us. Having purchased last year some of Grace Alexander seeds from the Toast web site (which come packaged in a manner that brings joy just to look at the packaging) the seeds came up and so now having found that this lovely book .....which i do not want to ever finish reading it i can see the coming winter months being a pleasure to keep re reading the book with a mug of coffee and dreams in my head. It has practical advice, musings from her life as a gardener in the style of a journal month by month and the most beautiful photographs. Her style of writing is eloquent and romantic it makes me want to get out in the garden and do all the things.
